In 1854, the founder of Shiogo, Shioya Gohei, whose family had already been in the business of dried confections and nikki-mochi (red bean buns with cinnamon) for generations, moved from Izumisano to the current location of the business in Kaizuka and started a confection shop making Murasame. This was the founding of Shiogo.
After the Meiji Restoration, the family name was changed to Shiotani, and the name of the shop was changed to Shiotani-do. However, it was still locally and affectionately known as “Shiogo”, derived from “Shio-ya no Go-hei.”
In the mid-1960s, the shop officially adopted the name "Shiogo," and in 1992 it was officially incorporated as Shiogo Co., Ltd.
Founded in 1854, Shiogo is a confectioner making "Murasame," the traditional sweet of southern Osaka Prefecture, in Osaka Kaizuka City, near Kansai International Airport (KIX).
